Morning Procedures

Obj:   to become familiar with morning procedures, to make observations around the room, to follow written and verbal directions, and appropriately socialize with students in the group.

 

Students will complete the following tasks:

§  Read the morning message.

§  Make a lunch choice.

§  Unpack backpacks.  Place everything on your desk.

§  Turn in forms and paperwork to the purple tub

Morning announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance

9:20-9:50

§  Welcome presentation (Power Point)

§  Review the Morning Message and discuss its daily purpose.

§  Schedule info (Smart Notebook file)

§  Restroom break – review expectations and go.  Looking ahead...students will sign out and go alone.  This is a responsibility I take seriously.  It is also a privilege that can be taken away.

Procedures

§  Teach quiet signal: S-A-L-A-M-I

§  Emergency drills: Q and A session and practice.

10:35-11:00
(Some Math)

§  Introduction to 5th grade math: Basic facts, Investigations, Scott Foresman textbook; While I’m teaching Ms. Burke’s class math, you’ll go to her room for science class.

§  Everyday: You will need your binder, pencils, and your math book (won’t always need it, but bring it).  If this changes, I will let you know BEFORE you go to Music or P.E.

Computer Usage Policy: How can we use technology to learn?  How can we make it safe for everyone?  How should we treat our computers?

§  Pass out copies of our class CUP and discuss each section.

§  HOMEWORK: Take it home, review it with parents/guardian, sign it, and bring it back the next school day.

·         Unit introduction:  Why do you need to know how to give directions? What do you need to know in order to give directions to someone? 1) In small groups, students will write directions to WMS.  2) Share directions with classmates.  3) Teacher-led discussion: Which set of directions did you like the most?  Why?  Were any of the directions confusing?  How could we make them better?  4) Whole-class revision of the directions.
