  • Partner check: Is your partner at school today? If not, set up the absent folder and form.
  • Read the Morning Message and follow any included directions.

Dear Super Students,

     Welcome back!  I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends.  And it snowed!  Amazing!  It’s not even winter yet.

     Last Tuesday, you received your progress report.  Please place the signed copy in the purple tub.  Today, you will receive a study guide for Unit 1 in Social Studies.  The test is this Thursday.  You will have time in class to work on the study guide, and you’ll need to finish it up for homework.  It is due Wednesday, and we’ll discuss and share answers in class on that day.  So, please have it completed. 

     Please read through the Daily Plans for today.  You may begin on Morning Work by reading and following the directions below.

MORNING WORK

NOTE:  This is an assignment to be completed with your partner (or alone if you don’t have one), and can be worked on throughout the day.  It is due by the end of the day on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd.

 

1.      Go to www.scholasticnews.com. 

2.    Within the Today’s News section, choose a topic from the following:

a.    Terror attacks in India

b.    Space Mechanics

c.    The Fans Have Spoken (Taylor Swift)

d.    Holidays 2008: Special Report (several articles to choose from)

3.     Read the article.  Take notes if needed.

4.    Type a summary of the article using Microsoft Word.

5.    Upload it to moodle at The Starting Place.

1.      Students will receive the study guide for Unit 1.

2.    Time to work on the study guide will be given in class.

1.     More subtraction practice here.  Record the problems that you and your partner complete.  You can use the same sheet of paper from yesterday.  During this time, students will be called up to complete subtraction problems with Mrs. Patton or Mrs. Stroer.

2.    The Digits Game (whole –class activity) – Students will be given a target number and “virtual” digits cards.  Find the closest number less than and greater than the target number.

3.    Assignment: Closest To The Target, Part 2 à Due tomorrow.

Dear Phenomenal Fifth Graders,

     Good to see you.  Please get right to work on your article summary so you can finish it today.  Oh, and if you haven’t turned in your signed progress report, please do so first thing this morning.  If I don’t have them by Thursday, I will debit you $5.00.  A grade update is very important information that your parents would like to see.  Returning the signed progress report shows that they have seen it and are up-to-date.  Thanks for taking care of this.
