Mrs. Patton’s Daily Plans

Week of February 15, 2010
Tuesday/Thursday week

F.Y.I.
(For Your Information)

Class expectations: During the second half of the school year, students will be held to the following expectations:

·        Students will write their name on assignments, or you will pay a debit of $10.  Remember to highlight your heading to help avoid this penalty.

·        Read and follow directions using the C.U.C.C. method, ON EVERYTHING!!!

·        Answers should be in complete sentences, unless I tell you otherwise.  A loss of points could result in not following these directions.  See below for a Written responses tip.

·        Every effort should be made to turn assignments in on time.  If work cannot be turned in on time, you need to take responsibility for it.  Tell me when you will turn it in.  Tell me how you are going to make sure it is finished.
NOTE: As of Monday, February 1st, there were 30 LATE ASSIGNMENTS IN THIS CLASS.  That’s more than 1 late assignment per student.  However, not every student had a late assignment.

S.T.A.R. – Stop, Take a book And Read – This is reading time that students participate in DURING our reading instruction time, also known as I.D.R. for independent reading time.  Students should practice essential reading skills while reading.  Good readers can also “talk back to books,” and reflect on their own progress as a reader.  Students should read a Just Right book at this time.

R.F.E. time – Reading For Enjoyment – This is reading time that students participate in at the beginning or end of the day, or when all assignments are finished.  Students can read an Easy, Just Right, or Challenging book.

Written responses: When answering a question on ANY ASSIGNMENT, your response (answer) should be written in complete sentences, unless told otherwise.

TIP: Try to “echo” the question in your answer to ensure a complete sentence.  Like this:

Q: What did the main character of the story do that was surprising?

A: The main character, Brandon, helped the bully pick up his books when he dropped them.  This was surprising because none of the characters in the story have been nice to the bully so far.

Can you identify the words from the question in the answer? FANTASTIC!!!
