READING REMINDER…

S.T.A.R. – Stop, Take a book And Read – This is reading time that students participate in DURING our reading instruction time.  Students should be working on a reading skill while reading, “talking back to books,” and reflecting on their own progress as a reader.  Students should read a Just Right book at this time.

 

R.F.E. time – Reading For Enjoyment – This is reading time that students participate in at the beginning or end of the day, or when all assignments are finished.  Students can read an Easy, Just Right, or Challenging book.

Please complete the following upon entering the classroom:

ü  Make your lunch choice, unpack, and hang up your backpack (Be sure to use the back rack if available.).  J

ü  Turn in any/all of the following: Friday Folders, notes from home, forms or permission slips, your planner, and any HOMEWORK that is due.

ü  Check to see if your partner is here.  If not, set up an absent folder.

ü  Be seated at your own desk when the bell rings at 9:15.

ü MORNING WORK is on your desk.  Please finish it ON YOUR OWN and keep it.

ü  Please join me in front by 9:28.  Please bring a pencil, your clipboard, and your morning work.

Writer’s workshop

Descriptive writing…looking at it as a writer.  Let’s look at examples of descriptive writing.  We will keep track of the traits we see in each example.

Reader’s workshop

Descriptive writing…looking at it as a reader.  As you read, be sure to continue “talking back to your book” but also, keep track of passages, sentences, even pages that are descriptive.  Mark these with a sticky note.  Write what you like about it.  THINK: How does this help you as a reader?

NOTE:  Today was a little different in our classroom.  Students had a non-eMINTS day.  Hopefully, this helps students realize how great it is to be in an eMINTS room, and with that comes responsibility.  Without access to computers, the Daily Plans were not available for students today.  Therefore changes had to be made and these changes are not reflected below.

Read

You can read an “easy”, “just right” or “challenging” book, or a magazine.

Write

You can add an entry to your writing “seed” notebook, reread entries, or start a draft from your “seed” notebook.  You could also write a friendly letter and mail it for WEE Deliver.

Learn

You can learn more and more by becoming a member of the Dardenne Mastery Club.  Click here to begin.

Extend
