Today, you
will watch the rest of the biome video, learning all about grasslands. The video will be paused in order to allow students
to add to their notes, especially when information about temperature,
precipitation and animals are mentioned.
After the
video is over, students will participate in an activity called Four More. Here’s
how it works: 1)
Students complete the Four More handout by filling out the top two
boxes: Key Ideas 2)
Next, you circulate around the room, collecting FOUR MORE ideas from
FOUR DIFFERENT students. These ideas
are recorded on your Four More sheet, in the bottom four boxes. This should take about 3 minutes. This step will help you for the next one. 3)
Return to your seats after collecting 4 ideas (or when time is
called). Now, add more details (that
support the key ideas) to each box, next to the two bullet points in each
box. 4)
Turn in your FOUR MORE sheet to your teacher. Assignment (to be done
independently): Complete the three biome
handouts using your notes. By
completing these handouts, you are demonstrating your understanding of the
material presented in the video and discussed in class. Please do your best work. This packet is due tomorrow. |

BNA Inv. 2 (pgs. 65-67) o
Activity: Playing the Unfair Spinner Game o
Activity: Designing a Fair Game with Unfair Spinners -------------------------------------------------------------- Info you’ll need for the math
activities Playing the Unfair Spinner Game: ·
You’ll work in groups
of four, with two teams of two in each group. ·
You’ll use two
spinners, labeled Spinner 1, Spinner 2.
And each pair spins at the same time as the other pair in that team. ·
What differences do
you notice in the spinners? ·
When playing, your
pair gets a point if your spinner lands on the section labeled “winner.” Discuss the probability (chances) of: ·
Discuss: Would you
rather play with Spinner 1 or 2? Why? ·
Flip a coin to
decide who gets to choose the spinner they will use. Flip the coin just once, and have a member
of the other pair call it before it lands.
If the call is correct, that pair gets to select which spinner they
play with. If the call is incorrect,
your pair gets to choose the spinner. ·
Once each pair has a
spinner, both pairs spin them at the same moment. Your pair wins a point only if you land on the
“winner” section of your own spinner.
Both pairs could win a point in the same round if their spinners landed
on “winner.” ·
Keep track of your
points. ·
The object of the
game is to be the first team to get 10 points. Designing a Fair Game with Unfair Spinners To make the game fair, you need to
remember these details: ·
You cannot change
either spinner. ·
Once pairs have
flipped a coin at the beginning of the game to determine who gets which
spinner, the pairs can’t trade spinners.
If a pair gets Spinner 1, they must keep it for the whole game. ·
Pairs can get points
only by landing on the “winner” section of their own spinner. ·
The game should take
at least 2 minutes, but no more than 5 minutes, to play. |

their group’s game rules. A coin will
be tossed to figure out who stays as the “home team” and who travels to
another group. Ø As you join in new groups, you will trade copies of
