Dear Super Students,

I hope you enjoyed your weekend.  That was probably the last weekend of warm weather.  We will share about our weekends this morning.  Think about what you will say.

This week is the last full week of the first quarter.  Please do your best to complete all assignments on time and to use class time wisely.  A final decision will be made about our class rules.  If you haven’t responded on moodle, please find the time to do that by Wednesday.

For Morning Work, please work on the reading assignment that is on your desk.  Turn it in when you are finished.  You may use your reading book to help you.  The Social Studies test will begin at 9:25.

Make it a great day!

Social Studies

We’ve learned a lot about our land, what landforms make up our country, where important cities are located, and how to locate places.  Now, let’s find out who lives here, what type of government we are a part of, what the economy is all about, and how we learn from our past.

To do this, we will use p. 6-13 in our textbook.  In addition, you will work with a team of students.  Please refer to the back chalkboard for specific groupings of students created by my RANDOM GROUP GENERATOR, SE.

Each group will be responsible for reading the assigned section, discussing what the section is about, deciding on what is most important in that section, and creating a short presentation. A graphic organizer will be provided.

You will get started today, and your goal should be to read the assigned text all the way through, at least once.  If time permits, share ideas within your team about the meaning of your text.  Tomorrow, you will get back with your team to review the material, and work on the presentation.

Dear Thoughtful Thinkers,

Happy Friday to you all!!  Today, you will continue the holistic test, which provides benchmarks with which I can monitor your progress and plan instruction.  In addition, I will pass back some completed assignments, and we will go over them together.  This will help to clarify meaning as well as expectations when completing in-class assignments and homework.  I believe this is a great time for this discussion, as we are near the end of first quarter.  After all, now is a great time to set goals for the second quarter as you continue your journey through fifth grade.

Morning Work: Meet with your team and continue working on your Social Studies project.  Presentations will begin at 9:40.
