Morning Message

Dear Intelligent Thinkers,

When reflecting about yesterday, I thought this: Today was so much better than days in the past!!!  Then I thought: Why is this?  It is because we started with our Morning Meeting?  It is because I shared with the class that I started working on report cards and some students’ grades reflect their behavior in class?  Well, whatever the reason, I hope today goes well too!  And tomorrow, and the next day…

What did you notice that went well yesterday?  I’d like for 3 students to be ready to share this at our morning meeting today.  Also, everyone should be ready to discuss credits and debits.  Let’s look at how many debits before there’s a loss of recess?  Please keep in mind that Think Sheets are for a disruption in the learning process for others.  Should filling out one of those automatically equal a loss of recess?  Lots to think about!  You input is valued and I hope you come ready to share.

Make it a great day!  Do the Knight thing!  Try your hardest!  Do your best!

                                                                        Sincerely,
                                                                       Mrs. Patton

·         Calendar Math

·         BNA Inv. 2 (pg. 68-69)

Ø  Activity: Judging the Fairness of Games:  Groups of 4 (from last week) will break into two teams of two to share their new game.  Each team needs their own copy of their group’s game rules.  A coin will be tossed to figure out who stays as the “home team” and who travels to another group.

Ø  As you join in new groups, you will trade copies of rules.  You should be able to learn how to play the other team’s game by reading the rules.

Ø  Once you understand the rules and have asked any questions, play a few rounds of the game.

Ø  Continuing traveling around the room to visit other teams and play their games.

Ø  When time is up, return to your seats.

Ø  Assignment: Think about each of the games you played (don’t include your own).  Pick one of the games for this assignment.  On a sheet of paper, write a brief explanation of whether you think the game is now fair.  Be sure to give reasons for why you think it’s fair or not.  You can use this rating scale to help explain your thinking:

««« = 100 percent fair

«« = somewhat fair

¢ = unfair
