Morning Procedures

Obj:   to become familiar with morning procedures, to follow written and verbal directions, and to appropriately socialize with students in the group.

 

Students will complete the following tasks:

§  Read the Morning Message and follow any included directions.

§  Follow the directions on the Morning Routine Poster (next to the Smartboard).

§  Turn in forms and paperwork to the purple tub. Turn in Homework to the Gray Box.

§  MORNING WORK à For today, read quietly.  We will talk about Morning Work at our Morning Meeting.

§  9:15 àMorning announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance

§  9:20 àFill out planners and turn them in.

9:30-9:50

Morning Meeting:

1.    Shared reading of the Morning Message

2.   Greeting – pinky handshake

3.   Sharing – one student, “rapid fire weekend sharing” (whole class)

4.   News and announcements: New Morning Work procedures and assignments.

Math

1.    Review last week’s weekly homework.

2.   Go over this week’s weekly homework: Adding 10, 100, 1000 more

3.   Share and discuss answers to Number Shape Clues together at the Smartboard.

1.     Spelling pretest – Lesson 2

2.   Discuss things that can be heard in the forest.  Also discuss conflict (story elements).

3.   Set purpose for reading, then listen to “Sees Behind Trees”.

1.     What are the purposes for writing?  Make a chart.

2.   Begin bio poem writing assignment.  This is homework if not finished in class.

Students will use Smart Notebook to create rectangles based on clues provided by the teacher.  Students will demonstrate their understanding of the following terms: prime and square numbers, factors and factor pairs, and multiples.  Students will be informally assessed through teacher observations.

2.   Whole class: Read and discuss the handout on narrative elements. 

3.   Navigators: Use the provided graphic organizer worksheet to describe the narrative elements of “Sees Behind Trees”: Problem, Actions, Solution.  Keep this to share in class on Friday.

4.   Drivers: Log in to moodle, click on “Reading” in the courses box.  Click on the theme title, “Look Inside,” and then scroll down to topic 2: Sees Behind Trees.  You will complete the open-ended response assignment.  WHEN FINISHED, help your partner get started when s/he is ready to.

5.   FINISHED WITH ALL OF THE ABOVE??? Please be sure that all morning work is finished as well as any late assignments.

3.   Drivers: Finish any online assignments from yesterday or any online morning work for the week.

4.    When drivers are finished, navigators will complete any online assignments or online morning work.

GOAL FOR ALL STUDENTS: Use your time in class today to complete all assigned work and this will help you: respond to a story through writing, demonstrate understanding of vocabulary words and narrative elements

11:55-12:25
Spelling/Writing

1.     Drivers take the spelling test first.

2.   Navigators begin work on their Bio Poem assignment.

3.   SWITCH when the driver is finished with the spelling test.
